Jenna Smith and Ken Johnson found each other online while he attended flight school for the U.S. Marine Corps in Pensacola, Florida. Four years of long-distance dating later, they returned to Florida for a Disney World vacation and, to Jenna's surprise, a proposal on the beach at the Polynesian Resort, beneath the Magic Kingdom's fireworks.
The couple married on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the Brooklyn Arts Center. The ceremony took place in the church, which glowed in a palette of blues. Jenna walked down the aisle to a processional of The Piano Guys' cover of "A Thousand Years." She wore a stunning, ivory lace dress with a keyhole back designed by Max Green. Ken watched her from the altar, wearing his Marine dress uniform. Derek Arnold, a personal friend, officiated the unforgettable ceremony, and Jazlyn, Jenna's sister, stood as maid of honor beside two other bridesmaids. Ken's side included his brother and best man, Mike, and two other good friends. The couple was pronounced man and wife, and guests moved to the BAC's heated courtyard tent for cocktail hour.
One hundred fifty friends and family traveled from Connecticut and Florida and beyond to celebrate the newlyweds. The happy crowd witnessed the couple's first dance to Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud." Port City Event Planners handled the Day-of Coordination, legendary Middle of the Island Catering Company served a wonderful low-country, Southern-comfort dinner, and Lesley Veronika Photography captured all the Kodak moments--including Jazlyn's victorious bouquet catch, an attractive arrangement of white hydrangeas.
Jenna and Ken currently live in Sneads Ferry, where she teaches third grade, and he continues to serve as a pilot for the U. S. Marine Corps. They live with their four dogs: Riley, Wrigley, Emma, and Tanner. The honeymoon is on hold as the couple contemplates Ken's deployment schedule, but they plan to relax on a beach "somewhere tropical" when the time is right.
